Album Review by John Sylvia

Boston Rock Radio

I was excited when I was asked to review this one. I’ve been an Alice Cooper fan ever since, as a young boy, I saw him perform on The Muppet Show in 1978. Then nine years later, my first real Rock concert was Alice Cooper being supported by Megadeth on his 1987 Constrictor tour, but I digress.

This EP is a tribute to the Punk scene of the late 60’s and early 70’s in Detroit, MI and he does it in a style that only Alice could. The album was recorded at Rust Belt Studios in Detroit and features musicians from that locale, such as Johnny “Bee” Bandajek of Detroit Wheels, Mark Farner from Grand Funk, and Wayne Kramer of MC5 fame. The opener, “Detroit City 2020” is a fantastic rewrite of 2003’s “Detroit City” from The Eyes of Alice Cooper. Other tracks include, “Go Man Go,” (Alice Cooper original) “East Side Story,” (Bob Seger cover) “Your Mama Won’t Like Me,” (Suzie Quatro cover) “Devil With a Blue Dress On” / “Chains Of Love,”  (Shorty Long cover / The Dirtbombs cover) and “Sister Anne” (MC5 cover.)

I really enjoyed this listening experience and have been playing it on repeat all morning, even as I am writing this. Definitely check this one out. It is available digitally and on a limited and numbered 10” vinyl (only 20,000 copies available.) Catch Alice Cooper on tour this Fall.
