I was honored to sit in on Massachusetts original band Mammothor’s interview with Wayne Benson on Boston Rock Radio. Frontman, Travis Lowell gave me the new Devotion Lost CD which I was excited to listen to on my two hour drive home.  I listened many, many times over the next week, and the fact that I could do that with any CD without skipping songs is a rarity.

Mammothor’s music has been called rock, metal, progressive alternative, and even blues.  Apparently the last CD was more bluesy, but Devotion Lost, although there are some hints of blues, definitely is for hard rock and metal listeners.

The lyrics aren't extensive, but the meanings are deep.  The choruses are especially catchy and easy to memorize after the first listen.   Lowell’s vocals are so versatile that he goes from soft rock to surprising and impressive metal screams, and everything in between.

“Howling Baying Jackal” starts the CD and quickly grabbed my attention with its dueling guitar riffs and solos.  “Elusive Engineer”, a song about dreams, was immediately my favorite song at first listen; but then again, I'm always a sucker for a ballad-like tune.  After several playthroughs, “Blood-Soaked Candy Heart” became tough competition for my #1.  I couldn't get this chorus out of my head.

“Hot damn! This flavor’s contagious!

My blood-soaked candy heart.

Good God! This flavor’s contagious!

Just a taste of my work of art.”

Other songs that were noteworthy of my attention were “Skin”,  “Faith Healer”, and “This Is Not An Exit” with some killer bass riffs.  I've only touched briefly on the enormity of ear candy this disc encompasses.   Take a listen for yourself for the full experience!

Mammothor has shared the stage with bands such as Living Colour, Sponge, Hinder, and most recently two shows with Trapt.  I can see them being that national headliner themselves if they continue down the path they are on.  Devotion Lost is top quality and is going to bring this band to the forefront.
