Screaming out to all the metalbabes, I have just the right dose of rock n roll for you ladies. You know how you go to a show and you see a female lead musician up on stage shredding the guitar, tearing it up like Lita Ford, Nita Strauss, Ann Wilson, that’s inspiring and total badass right.  I’m not gonna lie, I was super stoked when I first listened to Laura Cox and her band. Being a  metalbabe since birth, I’m always excited to hear strong, powerful, independent women take the lead in the music industry. To be honest, we need more women like her in our world.

Laura brings a mixture of southern rock, blues, a hint of bluegrass, a twang of country and the good ole rock n roll we all know and love. Laura defines her style as “Southern Hard Blues” and you would never guess that she is from France. Yeah you read that right, she is half French/half English and she lets her love for the guitar do the talking. Her debut album Hard Shot Blues came out in 2017 and her new album Burning Bright is just as good. If something sounds familiar, that’s because she is in fcantastic ompany with the great Howie Weinberg producing (Aerosmith, Pantera, Metallica, Van Halen to name a few artists he’s worked with).

When I hear Laura sing, Gretchen Wilson with more of rock n roll edge comes to mind, maybe throw in a little Bonnie Raitt.  If I had to choose a headliner for her to tour with, Black Stone Cherry would be it in my opinion. It doesn't get anymore southern fried than my Kentucky boys.  A few tunes from Burning Bright that I absolutely love have to be  “Last Breakdown," “As I Am, ”and “Freaking Out Loud."   “As I Am” has those classic guitar blues riffs blended with the right amount of heavy bass added with her phenomenal voice. "Freaking Out Loud” has a cool funky vibe like you would hear in a U2 song.  "Last Breakdown” has these catchy bass and guitar licks that just whip the song into shape.  Now don’t get me wrong, the whole album is badassery but those are just my favorites.

I extremely suggest that Burning Bright be in your music library as Laura Cox is making her way and she’s here to stay. That’s a wrap from the mouth from the south and thank you for taking the time to read my reviews.

I leave you with a quote from Madonna.  “ One thing I’ve learned is that I’m not the owner of my talent, I’m the manager of it”.
