Heavy Metal Rules

Release Date: September 27, 2019

Album Review by Allyson Kingsley, Music Journalist

Boston Rock Radio

Most of you would be lying your teeth off if you say you've never gotten into glam metal. Back in the glorious and fun years of the 80s that was pretty much the norm on radio, record stores, and concerts. You wanted to score chicks while driving around? Poison, Warrant, Van Halen, Motley Crue. Those were the go-to bands. And fuck yeah, us women loved the long haired bad boys. (Hell, some of us still do). What started as a band that was a parody of the glam era has become quite a cult sensation. Steel Panther have stolen our hearts and they are actually great musicians. I truly and highly recommend going to one of their live shows...even if you're no longer into hair metal (liars), you're going to have a fucking blast. At the very least it will transport you back to the glory days of when sex, drugs and Rock n Roll were all that mattered. Steel Panther, if anything, have brought the party back. And we welcome them wholeheartedly.

More reason to celebrate at Boston Rock Radio and the world over is because they preparing their next album release Heavy Metal RulesWe've all gotten a taste of two singles from the new album "All I Wanna Do is Fuck (Myself)" and "Always Gonna Be a Ho," both filled with tongue-in-cheek (as well as other places) humor. They continue to be the modern day bad boys wreaking havoc and debauchery wherever the road leads them. Title track "Heavy Metal Rules" is fun filled and slightly heavier than what we are used to as well as they give mention to some of the hair metal gods, Van Halen and Dokken particularly.

"Fuck Everybody" is exactly what you want to scream out to the world at large but due to fucking morals you are unable to. No problem, crank this one up at the office, look innocent and say "Oops, fucking radio". I have to say, although I've kind of outgrown the ballad thing (some remain precious to my memories), I loved "I Ain't Buying What You're Selling.” The lyrics still make me chuckle but it's really a song well done. I can never say thank you enough that Steel Panther exists to give us a good time in this fucked up world.
