Okay story lovers, this one’s for you. Gather around Grampa’s rocking chair. Fire Follows’ songs come with much meaning and heart, so criss cross applesauce or pull up a chair.

Chris Watt of Fire Follows is what I would call the definition of a persistent adaptor. Over 10 years ago, Chris was in a hard rock band named Author when he started experiencing trouble with this voice. It got to the point that he could barely speak much less sing. After speaking with his doctor, he was told that he had a partially paralyzed vocal cord. As Chris was also born with Tourette's Syndrome, the doctors thought this might have triggered the problem and there was not much that could be done.

His entire world was crushed. Chris underwent several different procedures over 5 years. After a period, he reconnected with a vocal coach that saw his drive for recovery and believed in him. This put a fire in him to keep pushing. Now he is living the dream that he worked so hard to attain. Fire Follows debut solo produced EP, If It's War You Want, hit May 31st.

Now I don’t know about you but I feel more connected to my music when I know the backstory. It’s especially nice when it’s an inspiring story like Chris's. Since I’m a slight bit of a lyrics junky the soul that radiates through his music makes it that much better. Fire Follows is a melodic hard rock with almost metal tendencies at times. Chris’s vocals has an almost 80/90s Bon Jovi feel with a sprinkle of Linkin Park-ness. The guitar has a metal backing and the production is great quality overall. I mean the cover is badass, the title is badass and so is the story.

This EP promotes a different sound I haven’t heard much but I enjoyed that aspect. Give it a listen, see what you think, and go give Chris some love.

Oh, you can un-criss cross your legs now.     ‘
