Cold Kingdom

Into the Black Sky

Release Date: May 24, 2019

Review By: Chey Moniz

In 2014, heavy hitting rock group Cold Kingdom was contrived in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This female fronted phenomenon is finally releasing their first full length album Into the Black Sky following their self-titled, three track EP released in 2017.

I chose to listen to the second track “Desire” first. My initial reaction was that it really reminded me of Halestorm. I find animosity in comparing bands, but sometimes it’s the easiest way to describe the band’s more obvious influences/inspiration to new listeners. The vocalist’s energy and youthfulness is definitely a refreshing step out of your typical grungy hard rock. They put an interesting twist on their genre though, as they experiment with various instruments, and even throw in some soundboard sounds. For example the intro to “Left Me Haunted” had a beautiful piano piece that I just had to express my appreciation for.

This album displays a broad spectrum of talent and is definitely something for the open minded music lover to take a listen to.
