      August Burns Red

      Phantom Sessions EP

Album Review by Allyson Kingsley, Music Journalist

      Jake Luhrs: lead vocalist

      Brent Rambler: rhythm guitarist

      John “JB” Brubaker: lead guitarist

      Matt Greiner: drummer

      Dustin Davidson: bassist

August Burns Red is a metalcore band based out of Pennsylvania that formed in 2003 and with hard work, humbleness, and dedication have been rocking stages all over. They are currently on The Dangerous Tour along with Fit For a King, Miss May I and Crystal Lake. I got to listen to their upcoming EP release Phantom Sessions and found it to be a decent little listen, more instrumental. Some of you may not enjoy the instrumental arts but I find it to be an inside look at the band's influences. And oftentimes if you listen very closely, you get a sense of the band members’ personalities.

“Midnight,” a potent song as its title hints at, is a heavy number that especially showcases their fretwork. With the next song “The Legend of Zelda” bassist David Davidson teamed with Nerdist and conceived and executed this guitar playthrough as it was one of his favorite childhood video games. It is certainly a whirlwind of sound and so much better than Nintendo’s version. We are led into “Laniakea” that embraces you at first with its peaceful, melodic and serene notes that shortly turns into a kickass jam. “Coordinates (Reprise)” is a cheerful little instrumental with a bit of bongo drumming thrown in for spice. The last track is “The Frost (Midi)” which sounds like it belongs in an Atari video game.

August Burns Red is particularly known for their amazing and charismatic stage presence and if you have a chance to listen to them live, they really bring their songs to life.
