A quick little story, my compadre sends me the most extreme metal (badass) reviews and the other day she sends me this promo material and mentions that it may not be my thing. I was quite taken aback and enamored with what I heard from this album, Witch Mountain, the latest from stoner/psychedelic rockers The Chrome Fangs. The band originates from Florida and formed in 2015. If you enjoy the likes of Hawkwind, Iggy Pop, and Iron Butterfly, you're going to get a kick out of these guys.
We start with the track “Cave” that features that fuzzy groove-filled riffs and pretty decent drumming to create a raw gritty garage band sound. We move into “Darkwoods” with a mournful guitar sound reminiscent of Hendrix with blues/jazz undertones. It is a definite soul-filled sound. My choice pick, which is an instrumental, is “Bad Hombres” and I'm hearing an absolutely superb 1950s style guitar rock. Overall this is a very unique album and I could envision them opening for some of the 70s greats.
