Airways - “Alien”

Song Review By Ariana Leo, Photojournalist Boston Rock Radio

Airways consists of Jake Daniels (vocals/guitar), Alexander Ruggiero (guitar), Jamie Reynolds (bass) and Brian Moroney (drums)

Up-and-coming British rockers Airways send a powerful message with the release of their new single “Alien,” complete with an equally punchy, colorful, in-your-face animated music video. “Alien” tells the simple and all-too-familiar story of a character wanting to feel as if they belong in a new place. The band drew inspiration for this track from their own personal experiences struggling to obtain visas to enter the US for a show, but this is in fact the cold, hard reality many people are facing in the world today. Instrumentally, the song has its bright, upbeat parts, which serve as the perfect backdrop for lyrics about persistence and determination; it also has its darker-sounding parts, during which the lyrics shift to a description of how it feels to be an outsider. Frontman Jake Daniels’ voice holds that traditional indie quality throughout the song, which works beautifully with both the brighter and darker sounds.

“Alien” is the first single to be taken from their upcoming new studio EP, which is yet to be announced, and is a huge step in the right direction for Airways in terms of widening their fanbase.  If writing timely, socially conscious and catchy songs becomes a trend, they could very easily become the indie act to watch in 2019.
