Perfectly Defect

Omnipresence Records

June 1, 2018

Album Review by Allyson Kingsley, Music Journalist with Boston Rock Radio

Hailing from Oslo, Norway Mortiis has had a long journey this far. After Mortiis aka Håvard Ellefsen left Emperor in late 1992, he started Mortiis as a solo project and released multiple solo project between 1993 and 1999. Mortiis as a band was formed shortly after the release of The Smell of Rain around 2001.  The style of music has been described as dark ambient, “dark dungeon music,” EBM and even industrial. You can decide for yourself after a listen.

The current lineup of Mortiis is:
Mortiis (Håvard Ellefsen) - lead vocals, programming, mixing
Levi Gawron (Levi Gawrock Trøite) - guitars, programming, mixing, bass
Tim Van Horn - drums

Perfectly Defect was originally released in 2010 in a download only format. June 1st sets the date for the reissue of this magnificently complex 11 song remix album. As I am not at all familiar with this particular genre of metal all I will say is this is akin to a journey through a postmodern world, something that could be a spectacular soundtrack to a Matrix type of film. Beautifully mastered, aggressively dark and that something that makes you want to move,

Perfectly Defect is an adventure into a strange otherworld, a netherland of all that is covert and mysterious and grim.
