Heavy guitars?  Check.  Earth shaking drums?  Check.  Anthemic choruses?  Check.  This is what you can expect to hear when listening through Pop Evil’s latest release, Versatile.  The Michigan quintuplet delivers a rollercoaster of an album full of familiar riffs and melodies that’ll be stuck in your head for days, while also exploring elements of electronic music in the process.

Versatile is an appropriate name for this album, as every song delivers something else to the listener.  Songs like “Let the Chaos Reign,” “Breath Again,” and “Worst in Me” fill that need for heavy rockers one would expect on a Pop Evil album.  “Work,” the band’s previously released rock radio hit, takes a departure from the driving rock sound and focuses on a percussion driven EDM arrangement, in a similar style of a very popular radio band (I won’t mention names, just imagine a big dragon when you listen).  What interested me the most were the songs that combined elements of rock and electronic.  “Same Blood” throws an electronic verse and bridge into the middle of what I consider the heaviest tune on the album, giving listeners a rollercoaster of a song.

The production on the album is stellar.  It’s not the typical modern rock production style many albums tend to have these days.  Instead, Versatile features a lively sound that may be a sneak peek as to what to expect on the recently announced “The Versatile Tour.”

Versatile is one rollercoaster of an album that is exactly what it’s title says.  Whether you like more traditional hard rock or are intrigued by electronic elements entering the genre, Pop Evil has something for you on this album.
