Album Review By Allyson Kingsley

Boston Rock Radio

Well, rockers, spring is here! Normally we would be clearing our calendars for concerts and music fests, making deals with the devil to get days off. Although life is slowly starting to look up in spite of the pandemic madness of 2020, we are still holding our breaths ever hoping for the venues and arenas to open again. We need this to happen. For all of our sanity. In the meantime, albums are still being released and here we have some good time rock n roll. Gilby Clarke brings us a new album, and he is well known for his role as guitarist in Guns N Roses and The MC5, and he was also a session player for the infamous Kim Fowley as well as Candy and Kill for Thrills. Now don't go expecting a Guns type of album here. Gilby goes a little deeper than that.

You will hear classic style rock, blues and even a smidgen of southern rock throughout this album. "The Gospel Truth," "Wayfarer" and "Wise Old Timer" are highlights of the bluesy/southern rock style. Meanwhile "Rock N Roll is Getting Louder," "Tightwad" (featuring Nikki Sixx), and "Down and Dirty" are your anthemic rock tunes. (Correct me if I'm wrong but I hear a strong KISS influence).

The album features legendary Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx, as well as the drummer from John Mellencamp and Chickenfoot Kenny Aronoff, and Stephen Perkins from Jane’s AddictionPorno For Pyro, and Infectious Grooves.

The Gospel Truth is nothing short of fun and phenomenal and Gilby has this infectious hearty vibe about him that shines through each song. For an added bonus to hear what he is about, dig  into some of his past discography. There is nothing like someone who brings the good times back to rock music and Gilby has once again hit that elevated status.
