Out of Luck

Beefhog Records

Album review by Allyson Kingsley Music Journalist with Boston Rock Radio

On October 28th I discovered this gem of a band while attending the Ghoul/Gwar concert at the Worcester Palladium.  The trio are Brent Purgason (guitarist/vocalist), also guitarist for GWAR, John Kelley, bassist and drummer Jeremy Dutra.  This rather badass trio rocks out of Richmond, Virginia. They originally started in 2007 as U.S. Brass and after several changes became known as U.S. Bastards in 2014. Among their stated influences are Motorhead,  Zeke, Johnny Thunders and Ramones.  Any fan of Motorhead is a friend indeed.

Their live performance was simple but had a bang to it, in which case I visited the merch table and purchased a CD to review.  This recording is just simply gritty down and dirty rock and roll. Hints of blues and punk are heard throughout the album.  Feisty song lyrics and absolute rude loudness feature on songs such as “Tit Dirt",  “OG Rockvillain" and “Shit Out of Luck.”   Probably not an album to play when your elder relatives are visiting. I was rather impressed by it's simplicity and the fact that my neighbors probably hated me for blasting it. Check them out on tour with Ghoul/GWAR. Love those dirty rockers.
