For those of you yearning for fun, sleazy, naughty rock, you’ve come to the right place! I should know. I myself, am fun, sleazy, and naughty. Out of Australia comes Laced In Lust with their debut full-length EP First Bite, and I eagerly sunk my teeth into this one. Although, to be completely transparent, this isn’t technically a debut. From what I could dig up, the album has 3 original songs. The other 11 tracks have been released piecemeal throughout the last 8 years. It’s not uncommon for a band to sign with a label and serve up previous material in one lump and label it as a debut...as in, a debut on that label. Regardless, First Bite is a full hour of carefree Contemporary Glam Rock.β
Yes, the spirit of cock rock has been resurrected for a nice stiff shot of playful libido and winking innuendo. Laced In Lust is out to have a good time, and we’re invited to tag along for a night of debauchery and spandex. If there is an Australian equivalent of Sunset Strip or CBGB’s, these guys should be headliners. As a bonus, nobody would have to worry about getting stuck in a cloud of Aqua Net hairspray these days.β
βIs First Bite a collection of recordings on the same intellectual level as Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd? No. Will it bring a second wave of big hair and glammed-up pretty boys? Also no. But what the EP does give us is an ass-shaking, hip-grinding shot-slamming good time. Without copying or covering established 80’s hair bands, Laced In Lust pays tribute to the Lycra legions that came before them. I could hear influences of Bang Tango, Junkyard, and even a little bit of Jackyl (without the chainsaw, thank you very much). Laced In Lust even attempts the obligatory power ballad at the very end of First Bite, effectively putting the brakes on all the sexual energy built up. Overall, it’s a fun time devoted to casting worries aside and letting the little monster of rock within you come out and play. So open up, and instead of saying ...Ahhh!, take a First Bite of Laced In Lust when the album drops on February 26th. There’s a good chance you’ll want to come back for more.
