Fast, loud, and pissed off is the name of the game for Seattle natives Avoid. Even though this review takes us to the Mecca of Grunge, there is no trace of that format here. Brace yourselves for Avoid’s fourth EP release, The Burner, because they turned it up to full blast!
You’re in for five tracks overflowing with insane brain-melting energy throughout the 17-minute runtime, all pure Thrash/NuMetal. Avoid has turned youthful indiscretions into an explosive cash cow, never letting up. Ever. The inhuman speed of the guitarist and the drummer taunts the vocalist to keep up, and he does so with reckless abandon. I was briefly worried that the guy’s larynx would detonate and level a 10-mile radius, but they are pros full of piss and vinegar. They know what they’re doing.
Avoid shows no signs of slowing down, much to the excitement of Thrash Metal fans. I wish I knew more about the individual musicians. I have so many questions. This is a fascinating combo that makes up a youthful-sounding band, but their musical skills and forcefulness come across as seasoned players who have decades of experience. The Burner is Avoid’s step closer to overthrowing established Thrash Metal bands. That step began when their EP was released on November 6th. If this is up your alley, then DON’T avoid The Burner. Go ahead and feel the burn that Avoid has waiting for you.
